Last week Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad reported Leicester City have reached an agreement with Genk to sign Wilfred Ndidi in January and will pay €17.7m in a deal that could rise to €22m.
The reports spread and it soon became accepted in Belgium that, subject to a work permit and medical checks, Ndidi is to become a Leicester player. Claudio Ranieri wants extra strength in midfield, and Genk are happy to receive a big chunk of money.
It would be a huge move for the 19 year old, and he’d see a huge increase in wages when switching to the Premier League. The Nigerian international could be forgiven for being a little distracted.
Well, that can be his excuse because according to Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg, Ndidi put in a poor performance on Sunday as Genk lost 2-1 to Lokeren. Most of the team were poor but HBVL rated Ndidi as 5 out of ten.
Genk’s team may have been distracted given that their pitch was half frozen. The heating had failed for half of the pitch which presented a match played on half a green surface and half an iced one.
It’s been explained Ndidi wasn’t up to his usual standards in the shock defeat.
