On Thursday, claims surfaced that La Liga side Villarreal would be keen on signing Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

As the player has been struggling to impress under Pep Guardiola, the Spanish club would try take him back to the league where he succeeded both with Real Sociedad and Barcelona.

The claims have obviously made it to Spain, and Manolete from AS has posted his take on the matter.

He claims that Villarreal have indeed been interested in Bravo since the goalkeeper’s time at Barcelona. But he also says it sounds like an unlikely operation for the club, since the Chilean’s wages at Manchester City are too much for the Spanish side.

The possibility of a deal would be in case Villarreal get a spot in European competition, as the club would plan to make a heavier investment in this case.

Villarreal are currently fifth place in the table, so qualification for the Europa League seems pretty close. Champions League is still possible and that would give the Spanish club a bigger budget for next season, although they’d likely try to get Manchester City to agree to a loan deal.
