AC Milan have joined the race to sign Bologna midfielder Amadou Diawara, according to claims in the Italian media. The 19-year-old could leave Bologna before the transfer deadline, and has already been linked with Aston Villa, along with other Serie A sides.

TMW have reported in the last hour that AC Milan are hoping to close in on Diawara with claims the Italian giants will hold talks with Bologna with regards to signing the youngster.

AC Milan are looking to re-build their squad in this window following their disappointments in recent seasons. With the injection of funds into the club after their recent takeover, Diawara is high on AC Milan’s wanted list, but they will face competition to land him.

Last week we covered reports from Italy that Aston Villa had tabled a bid of £14.5m to sign Diawara despite dropping down to the Championship, something which his agent has since said is true.

The young midfielder was in impressive form in his debut season in Serie A, and was one of Bologna’s standout players.

Napoli and AS Roma are also keen on the player.
