Gerard Deulofeu scored thrice and registered an assist in Watford’s 5-1 win over Cardiff City and in doing so, he became the first Hornets player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League.

The Spaniard received a lot of praise for his performance and journalist Alfredo Pedulla also hailed Javi Gracia side’s decision to retain the forward, despite interest from ‘many clubs’ in January.

Tuesday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport explains how the 24-year-old’s display against the Welsh club saw him being selected as the player of the week.

Deulofeu, who was re-signed by Barcelona in 2017, didn’t enjoy regular minutes under the guidance of Ernesto Valverde last season.

The La Liga winners allowed him to join Watford on loan last January and the deal was made permanent in June 2018.

Sport claims the former Everton man is happy at Vicarage Road because he is playing regularly for the English club.

However, they claim that it is ‘too bad’ that Deulofeu’s enormous talent only appears in ‘flashes’, which is why the player did not succeed at Barcelona.
