According to a claim in the Italian media, AC Milan have turned down Chelsea’s advances for defender Alessio Romagnoli.

The Italy international has been linked with the Premier League side in this transfer window, and it now seems Chelsea will turn their attention to Juventus’ Daniele Rugani.

Calciomercato report AC Milan have welcomed Chelsea’s pursuit of Rugani, saying the English side offered €40m plus bonuses for Romagnoli. However, the Italian club want to make the central defender a key player and rejected Chelsea’s bid.

Their manager Gennaro Gattuso was also keen to keep the youngster at the San Siro, being impressed with the player since taking charge.

With the arrival of Maurizio Sarri and the departure of Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will now target Rugani.

Romagnoli recently extended his contract with AC Milan, which will tie him down to the Serie A club until June 2022.
