As it starts looking like Manchester United may be taking too long to make their first signings of the summer, something interesting is now said by the Dutch media.

On De Teleegraf (via Football Transfers), Marcel van de Kraan explains that Erik ten Hag actually has several names on the list, but the club have not yet moved for some of them.

The first one is claimed to be Orkun Kökcü, who’s leaving Feyenoord for Benfica on a €25m deal. It’s explained that the Manchester United only had him as a second option, and the 25-year-old got too afraid of waiting for a transfer which would maybe never happen.

“Ten Hag always takes pictures of the number one, two and three that he wants to have in a position,” said van de Kraan.

“You saw that with Kökcü too. He was number two for that position, because Mason Mount was number one. Kökcü was not going to wait for that. He said: ‘Hello, then I’m going to Benfica’. That’s also a bit of the reason that the transfer came so quickly. Kökcü thought: ‘if they still get Mount, it can also go another way and then I will have nothing’.”

The journalist also spoke about Ajax’s versatile star, Mohammed Kudus, who’s currently also linked to a move to Manchester United. There, it’s explained that he’s one of the alternatives that ten Hag has in mind as well.

“He just wants to keep selecting and he wants new players for the guys who leave. What I understood over the weekend is that Kudus is indeed very much in the picture, but in a position where someone is still ahead on the wish list.”

To sum it up, Football Transfers points out that Mount still has yet to be signed, while Kökcü was already announced by Benfica.

Regarding Kudus, they point out the Red Devils also have an eye on Ryan Gravenberch, Moises Caicedo and Taylor Booth.
