Over the summer, it appeared that Erik ten Hag only had one name in mind to bolster his midfielder at Manchester United, and that was Frenkie de Jong.
The Barcelona star was allegedly the subject of an offer from the Red Devils, but the player always made it clear he didn’t want to leave the La Liga side.
Well, according to Sport, Manchester United could come back for more, as they ‘keep thinking’ about the Dutchman for their squad.
It’s said the Old Trafford side see the midfielder as ‘one of their favourite (potential) signings’ to improve the Ten Hag project.
Sport recall that the current Manchester United ‘did the impossible’ to try and sign De Jong last summer, but he ‘seems willing to try it a second time’.
While it’s clear that the signing of Casemiro has been a huge success, the Red Devils need more than just the Brazilian to turn their midfield into a world class one, and it’s pointed out that the ‘galactic’ arrival of the Netherlands international ‘could change the team’s aspirations.
Sport then add that despite the interest, the player currently wants to stay in Barcelona, but there’s no denying Manchester United’s return to form and a reunion with his former manager ‘could seduce him’.
