Manchester United will need as much as €50m this summer if they want to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say that is the ‘pain threshold’ the German side have set for the Dutchman.
Frimpong has been impressing for Leverkusen this season, with a record of eight goals and five assists in 26 games in the league so far.
That has earned him suitors ahead of the summer transfer window, with Manchester United in particular linked with a move.
Reports this week have indicated that they have already made their move for the defender, holding talks with his agent as Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the player.
SportBILD back that up somewhat, stating that Frimpong does have suitors but ‘especially Manchester United’.
They are one of several top English sides to have ‘set their sights’ on the Dutchman but Leverkusen are not planning to let him go on the cheap.
The belief was that they were gearing up for a sale because they recently secured the signing of Arthur but that is not the case and the plan is that he will provide competition for Frimpong rather than replace him.
In fact, Leverkusen have set a ‘pain threshold’ of €50m for Frimpong, who has a contract until 2025, meaning they do not need to rush into any decision on his future.
Whether Manchester United are willing to pay that isn’t stated but it is a big amount, particularly when it is expected that they’ll be spending big on a striker this summer also.
With Erik ten Hag seemingly a big fan, though, and wanting the move, perhaps the club will again back his decisions with the money that is needed.
