When it comes to Manchester United and Hakan Çalhanoğlu, there’s always a big question mark as to whether the Premier League club actually want the Turkey international.
There have been many contradicting reports on the matter, with the Italian media adamant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are interested in the potential free agent, while their counterparts in England claiming otherwise.
On Wednesday, Calciomercato.it had a report on the situation, which contained a line explaining Manchester United’s desire to sign Çalhanoğlu was ‘real’.
This is followed by Gazzetta dello Sport on Thursday, who state that, for now, the attacking midfielder ‘wants to wait’ to see what Milan are prepared to offer him to stay, thus ‘confirming a position that had already been outlined when some Spanish clubs and especially Manchester United knocked on his door’.
Once again, we are left with the Italian media pushing the Red Devils as one of the main protagonists in this saga, clearly suggesting they’ve made some sort of contact with the player, but it remains unclear whether or not this is simply a ploy by his representatives to get a better deal from his current club.
We’ll have to wait and see, but it certainly wouldn’t be the first time United have been used to this effect.
Çalhanoğlu has been in fine form this season, scoring five goals and assisting another six in 18 appearances in all competitions for Milan.
