The recent rumours linking Ronald Araujo to Aston Villa are now being fully dismissed in the Spanish media.

A fresh report from Cope journalist Helena Condis Edo comes up to say that there’s actually no chase from Unai Emery’s side for the Barcelona defender.

The reporter claims that official sources from Aston Villa told her that the recent stories are an ‘epic and unbelievable invention’.

Those same people told Condis that the English club have their defence well covered with the likes of Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres.

It’s then claimed that the Araujo option is ‘discarded’ by Aston Villa this summer.

Aston Villa interest in Araujo is a story which showed up this week, with reports from the Catalan media giving it a lot of hype.

The centre-back has an uncertain future at the Camp Nou, and given Barcelona’s financial needs, Aston Villa had been seen as a solution for that situation.

That story could be now being put to an end, though, unless there’s a big turnaround reported by Spain’s major outlets.
