Enzo Barrenechea’s love affair with Valencia continues to grow, weeks after he arrived from Aston Villa.
Sometimes a move just feels like fate, and that’s the case with the Aston Villa loanee and the Spanish club. Even before Unai Emery’s side had bought him from Juventus in the summer, the Argentine’s sister had secured a university place in Valencia, moving there with some of the family.
That Barrenechea was then able to move to the La Liga side on loan felt like someone was writing the script for the family.
However, Los Ches were at one of their frequent low points of recent times, and their start to the season was anything but welcoming.
After the 3-0 loss to Atletico Madrid and no wins on the board, it was clear a change was needed in midfield. The Superman costume was put on Enzo Barrenechea and great things were expected.
Well, the Aston Villa owned player started for Valencia at the weekend and they beat Girona 2-0. All the more impressive given Girona finished third last season, and it dragged Enzo’s club one place from bottom.
That came at some personal cost, though.
Mundo Deportivo report Barrenechea ‘limped off the Mestalla pitch’ after just over an hour. He’d put in so much effort that he’d become restricted by cramps.
Mundo Deportivo report that as he was coming off, the Mestalla crowd chanted ‘Enzo, Enzo’, to make sure he knew his effort was appreciated.
Despite limping off, the Aston Villa man is expected to be available to face Osasuna on Tuesday evening.
