Liverpool overcame Chelsea at Wembley last weekend to win this season EFL Cup. With the Merseyside club’s latest success in this competition, Jürgen Klopp is now only left with the FA Cup to win for the Premier League side.

The manager’s first silverware came in 2019 when he guided the Reds to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the final to win the Champions League at the Wanda Metropolitano.

This was the English club’s first success in Europe since 2005, when they beat AC Milan to lift the Champions League trophy. The Rossoneri went into half-time leading 3-0, courtesy of an early goal from Paolo Maldini and a brace from Hernán Crespo.

Liverpool bounced back in the second half, scoring thrice in less than 10 minutes. The tie ended in a 3-3 draw and the final in Istanbul was decided on penalties, won by the Premier League side.

It’s been close to 17 years and the South American has still not managed to get over the disappointment of losing the final to Liverpool.

“One night that entered my soul and from there it will never go away again. It was said that during the interval we were already celebrating: Rubbish!” Crespo told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I remember that Paolo and I, and Sheva [Andriy Shevchenko] too, were talking about how to score the fourth goal, other than celebrations!”
