Antonio Cassano is never afraid to give his opinion on footballers, and more often than not it seems to be a negative one.
The 39-year-old is now retired, and during his playing career he was considered extremely talented, if inconsistent and difficult to handle. His life off the pitch was often a source of stories for Italy’s gossip columns.
Now, he works as a pundit on Italian TV and can often be relied on to make comments which will spread around Europe, and that’s now the case with something he’s said about Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portugal international left Juventus and Italian football in the summer, to make a return to Manchester United. Since the move, Juve have made it very clear that an exit was Ronaldo’s decision and that they didn’t think they could stand in his way.
Speaking on BoboTV, Cassano was asked about the player, and is quoted by TMW as saying: “Enough of these dramas: Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the history of football? He is not even in the best five. As for me, Messi, Pele, Maradona, Cruyff and Ronaldo the phenomenon are on another level.”
That’s not going to bother Cristiano Ronaldo too much, but it may give him some added motivation ahead of a difficult period for Manchester United.
