Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has admitted he is striving to ensure he enjoys the good times whilst they are good.
TyC Sports cover comments from the Aston Villa goalkeeper today after he was handed his latest award in what is becoming a growing cabinet.
He was handed an award for being named as the best goalkeeper in the world at the Ballon d’Or, a repeat of last year when the Argentinian Football Association and Boca Juniors both honoured the goalkeeper.
This time it was an event organised by the leadership of La Riber, who handed him a plaque designed by Argentine plastic artist Alejandro Marmo, named The Illuminated Hands.
It was a sign of the continued affection for the Aston Villa goalkeeper in his homeland and further recognition of his achievements for club, and particularly country, in recent years.
He’s also moving up the ranks for Argentina when it comes to appearances, now sitting third in the rankings when it comes to goalkeepers.
He knows he’s in a special moment and wants to experience that to the full whilst he has the chance to do so.
“I’m more into the statistics of clean sheets and titles. It’s a source of pride, I only dreamed of winning one,” he said.
“Being third doesn’t make me want to relax, I want to continue improving. It’s a pleasure to play here.
“This year it was a source of pride: we came out champions of America back, we are first in the Qualifiers, we play as equals against any team, we have to play in a Super Cup with Spain, we have a World Cup ahead of us and there is a new generation adding minutes.
“We have to enjoy the good moments and. be the best team, we still have a way to go.”
