Newcastle United have received encouragement in their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry, according to Bild.
At the weekend, claims from the British press stated the Magpies are considering making a £40m bid to sign the winger this summer.
Bild relay that and then provide their own take on this case. The ‘problem’ for Newcastle is that the 29-year-old isn’t planning on leaving the Bavarian club.
The Germany international has two years left on his contract and he recently expressed his desire to extend his stay beyond 2026.
Vincent Kompany’s side have strengthened their attack with Michael Olise and they are working on signing Stade Rennais young star Désiré Doué, which would only increase the competition.
The former Arsenal man struggled with multiple injury last season, restricting him to 764 minutes from 20 games. In addition to this, he earns €19m per year.
Taking these factors into account, Bayern ‘would not put any obstacles’ for Newcastle or another club to sign him.
Howe’s side have to convince Gnabry to change his stance, to stand a chance of bringing him to St James’ Park in this window.
