Sevilla defender Jules Koundé has been left out of their squad to face Elche this weekend as the Spanish club wait for Chelsea to improve their offer for him.
That’s according to MARCA, who insist that the Blues have not improved their offer for the French centre-back as yet.
They say that the feeling within Sevilla’s leadership goes from ‘one extreme to the other’ in the Koundé affair as Chelsea to and fro about a deal.
Their belief is that the Champions League holders will finalise the deal as soon as they realise they need to ‘raise their offer’ and present a real market price for the centre-back.
That is something they are yet to do, largely because the deal taking Kurt Zouma remains unresolved after reports of a knee issue appearing in his medical.
Chelsea’s management are yet to move from their first offer of €50m, and Sevilla have ‘not even contemplated’ selling for such a figure.
That is why the feelings at the club go from one extreme to the other, with some believing a deal won’t even happen.
They are being careful, though, and that is why Koundé is not a part of the squad for the clash with Elche. There is also a worry the player is distracted, and that will affect the squad, particularly because he already has an agreement in place with Chelsea.
The ball is in the Blues court, however, and as far as MARCA are concerned, they are yet to raise their bid and give Sevilla what they want, despite reports to the contrary elsewhere.
