On Tuesday, we covered reports from Spain that Aston Villa are keen to sign Pau Torres. The Villarreal star has a contract until 2024 and will have to decision if he wants to pen a new deal or move elsewhere in the summer.
Wednesday’s El Periódico Mediterráneo states Aston Villa want the 26-year-old when explaining the La Liga side’s plans for the next window.
Villarreal will finish the season in the fifth spot and qualify for the Europa League next season. Their president, Fernando Roig Negueroles, and the sporting director, Miguel Ángel Tena, will now focus on carrying out a few exit operations.
Torres and Samuel Chukwueze have been pushed forward as the two main candidates to be sold and the Villans are keen to secure the centre-back’s services.
It’s stated the Yellow Submarine intend to offer him a ‘life contract’, in which they would be willing to allow the defender to leave, if he asks for a transfer in the future.
However, there might not even be a need for this scenario because Unai Emery is ‘trying to convince’ his former player to join his ‘ambitious project’ at Aston Villa.
The newspaper further adds ‘both entities would have to negotiate’ since Torres has a €60m release clause, which is unlikely to be triggered since he has just one year left on that deal.
