On Wednesday, we covered claims from Italy that Mattéo Guendouzi wants to leave Lazio and Aston Villa are ready to open their doors for him.
Two days later, Lazio director Angelo Fabiani indicated they’ll listen to Aston Villa’s offer, if they were to table one for the midfielder.
Monday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport says Lazio president Claudio Lotito wants to retain the 25-year-old amid Aston Villa’s interest.
The France international joined the Serie A side from Marseille on loan with an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.
Lazio want to have the midfielder next season and are said to have relayed this to Igor Tudor, their manager, with the insinuation he needs to fix personal issues he has with Guendouzi.
The pair clashed when Tudor was manager at Marseille, which prompted the player to go out on loan in the first place.
Lazio director Angelo Fabiani has been working on improving the relationship between the two, but his efforts haven’t been successful so far.
It’s claimed Guendouzi wants to leave in the summer window. He’s keen on returning to England, where Aston Villa have emerged as a firm contender.
Unai Emery, who took Guendouzi to Arsenal in 2018, reportedly wants him at Villa Park. It’s clear that the manager is leading his side’s transfer pursuit and not Aston Villa director Monchi. The report states the Premier League side are ready to offer €30m for the Frenchman.
Guendouzi’s entourage are expected to hold talks with Lazio today and this meeting should provide better clarity on where his future will be.
