Over the weekend, Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthäus urged his former club to appoint Aston Villa boss Unai Emery as their next manager.
Thomas Tuchel will leave at the end of the season and the Bavarian club have to appoint his successor, which is proving more difficult than in most years.
Bild state the Aston Villa manager is an ‘exciting candidate’ for the Bundesliga side and his name is very popular within the Allianz Arena offices.
Emery has insisted that he’s “100% focused” on the Villans, but Bild state that doesn’t rule out a Villa Park exit.
The 52-year-old has a ‘Spanish paradise in Birmingham’ and that makes it ‘anything but easy’ for Bayern to snatch him away from Aston Villa.
Emery’s deal lasts until 2027 and he has a good relationship with the Premier League side’s owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.
The Spaniard was influential in bringing his compatriots, Monchi and Damian Vidagany, to Aston Villa. There are other Spaniards in his coaching staff, and it results in a ‘feel-good oasis’ for him.
Bild add Emery has ‘complete control and gets almost every wish fulfiled’ at Villa Park, and this is something he wouldn’t get at Bayern. He also owns Real Union and they have a partnership with Aston Villa.
These factors, coupled with Emery ‘riding the wave of success’ at Aston Villa, would make it difficult for Bayern Munich to appoint him as their next manager.
Bild haven’t completely given up on behalf of Bayern… but they almost have!
