Douglas Luiz seems to have been in an endless struggle since he left Aston Villa earlier this year.
It was a deal which saw negotiations involving two other players, Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea, and those two both quickly left on loan for the season.
Juventus manager Thiago Motta doesn’t seem to know what to do with the midfielder and there’s been endless critcism which at this stage must be getting to the Brazilian.
More criticism has arrived from a former Juventus midfielder, after Massimo Mauro had a chat with TuttoSport
Mauro didn’t spare any ounches over what he thinks of the arrival from Aston Villa so far.
He said, as relayed by Calciomercato: “From what we saw in Empoli it was right to rest him. In Tuscany, he was embarrassing. He was walking.
“If instead he were to be used little in the future, then yes it would become a problem considering he cost €50m.”
The 26-year-old’s performance against Empoli wasn’t up to the mark, which led to him being stuck on the bench for the entire match against Napoli at the weekend.
He’s made four appearances so far in Serie A but only one start, which suggests that Thiago Motta perhaps wants to see more before he fully commits.
Douglas Luiz was excellent at Aston Villa and will surely come good if given the right opportunities. However, given the narrative right now it’s going to require a lot to change things.
