Former Leeds United forward Tomas Brolin has questioned Linus Wahlqvist’s penalty against England U21s last night. The 20-year-old could follow in Brolin’s footsteps by signing for Leeds United, after being linked with the Championship side continually in the past 12 months.
Wahlqvist has come in for flak for his penalty miss, mainly because the Swedish media have perceived his attempt to be a Panenka. The IFK defender has denied this is what he intended, but Brolin has still managed to get a dig in.
Renowned for his creativity on the pitch during the 90s the Swede posted on social media that Wahlqvist’s attempt wasn’t a “Brolin” type penalty after the youngster’s audacious strike.
“Not a Brolin penalty … that wasn’t,” said the former Leeds United player
However, if Wahlqvist does join Leeds United this summer he’ll be hoping he can make more of an impact than his compatriot Brolin did in the mid 1990s.
Brolin came to England with a huge reputation when he signed for Leeds United from Parma, but had fitness and form issues whilst at Elland Road.
