That didn’t take long. on Monday afternoon Le Parisien reported a second Lyon offer for Manchester United’s Memphis Depay, and RMC say it’s already been rejected.
The offer was €15m, an improvement on the first bid of €12m, but Manchester United still aren’t content with the level of money. RMC state that Manchester United want €20m with a bonus to agree to a transfer.
Edward Woodward is clearly trying to get back as much as possible if Depay is to leave Old Trafford this month. Not to be deterred, RMC say Lyon will return with a third offer for the player in ‘the coming days’.
Pleasing Depay on wages isn’t thought to be a problem, it’s the agreement between the two clubs which is proving more difficult. Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has stated Depay is a ‘priority’ transfer for the club, which gives some negotiating power to Woodward.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is an experienced operator in the transfer market and won’t want to simply give in to Manchester United’s demands, so this one could drag on further yet.
There’s two weeks of the transfer window left for the clubs to come to an agreement.
