ESPN Brasil managed to have a little chat with Gilberto Silva during Arsenal’s game against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Brazilian made a few comments on the club’s current situation, first speaking of the work they’ve been done to find a manager to replace Unai Emery.

“It’s important, above all, to be careful how you make this transition,” Gilberto Silva told ESPN Brasil. “I don’t know exactly how the post-Wenger transition process worked. How this was done, if any preparation was made for it to happen. And unfortunately, for this season, in terms of results, these are not the best results. So there is still a lot of uncertainty around the club in general. From what I hear, I talk to people, to former athletes, my teammates who played together.”

Speaking of director Edu Gaspar, who used to be his teammate at the club, Gilberto Silva claims that good results would help the new official to do his job more calmly.

“He’s super excited. We talked a few times. He’s hardly having time, he has a lot of work, a lot. Also because in the history of Arsenal he’s the first sports director. And it comes at a moment of transition, as we have just said. It’s a lot of work, a lot to do, but he’s super motivated, excited, working hard.

“But to help, I think even for his arrival, it’s important that the results come out as good as possible, to have more peace of mind outside. Since in recent weeks, before the departure of Unai, the external environment was very troubled, a very strong pressure from the fans here in England. I hope he can do a good job. And from what we had the opportunity to talk about a few weeks ago, he’s very eager, people giving a lot of support.”

Gilberto Silva also talked about Gabriel Martinelli, claiming that the youngster brings what’s needed for Arsenal’s current squad.

“I haven’t had a chance to meet Gabriel yet, but I’m super happy for him. Because being a young player… I see in him a boy not afraid to play, brave in his actions on the pitch. Even with all the pressure the club is going through, it transfers all that external pressure onto the pitch, but he’s playing as if he’s playing a game in Brazil with his friends. I think it’s this attitude that Arsenal need from all players. That’s the energy the club needs right now.”

Following the 3-0 loss to Manchester City, Arsenal now go to Liverpool to face Everton at Goodison Park next Saturday, and then visit Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

Currently ninth in the Premier League table, a new manager is probably the best Christmas present Arsenal and Edu can get.
