Celtic are interested in the Club America defender Edson Álvarez, according to the Mexican press this Thursday.
Newspaper Record claims that the Hoops are one of the sides who have been following him since his appearances for Mexico at the 2018 World Cup, where he must have impressed those scouting for Brendan Rodgers.
It’s said that America are already aware of the European interest in the player, although they have no bids on their hands so far, from Celtic or anywhere else.
Despite being only 21, Alvarez has been established at his club for a while, having 83 appearances for them already.
Record say the player was impacted after scoring an own goal at the World Cup, but then worked hard to get back on track at his club.
He was then rewarded with the two goals he’s scored in the Apertura final against Cruz Azul last weekend, which gave America the title.
Despite being mostly a defender, Alvarez sometimes plays as a defensive midfielder. That’s how he featured in the final. There’s no indication of how Celtic see him.
