Newcastle United have been linked with Atalanta fullback Haris Bateboer a couple of times this week.
In a report a few days ago from Tutto Mercato Web, it was claimed that the player asked to leave his club in January, and the Magpies, who have a ‘very strong’ interest, would be a potential destination.
Now we get to see this chase backed up by Tutto Atalanta, who today feature a piece with a few opinions brought by their editor Lorenzo Casalino.
Speaking of Bateboer’s future, he points out that Newcastle remains the main possibility for a move in the winter market.
“To date, the team that could immediately take him in this market session is Newcastle of the Arabs in the Premier League, we’ll see.”
With Newcastle just confirming the arrival of Kieran Trippier, that of course makes us wonder if they’d really go for another right-back in the January window.
Hateboer, who missed the start of the season at Atalanta due to a foot injury, is now back in form and is fairly highly rated by Transfermarkt, who put a price of €16m on him.
Unless, Eddie Howe decides he needs more competition at fullback, then it looks like this player has missed his chance.
