Bild have a Monday lunchtime update, or clarification, on Jerome Boateng to Manchester United. Before we go into that, it’s worth having a recap.
On August 2nd Bild reported the Premier League club were starting ‘Transfer Poker’ with Bayern Munich to try and sign the defender.
The idea was for Anthony Martial to be used as bait to get Boateng.
Bild dismissed Bayern wanting the Frenchman this summer and quoted Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as saying: “We have four outside forwards: Ribéry, Robben, Coman and Gnabry. And Davies also comes. You must not overdo it. That’s what some clubs do, but it’s a problem for the coach.”
At the time we stated that was a good clue of where the information was coming from.
Then, just as Manchester United’s friendly against Bayern Munich was ending on Sunday evening, the well connected Christian Falk tweeted the English club had, yesterday, opened negotiations to sign the player.
Falk has excellent Bayern connections, which again may suggest where the information is coming from.
Bild then covered the claim in an online article, saying it was possible Boateng played his farewell game yesterday.
Bild’s Monday article says there’s ‘Hot Poker’ now going on. It’s reiterated that Manchester United ‘officially contacted Bayern, and added that Ed Woodward has the player on his agenda.
Bayern want €50m. Boateng is looking for a last big contract and his ‘dream’ would have been Barcelona or Real Madrid. Right now he’d prefer PSG, but a mega wages offer from the Premier League club could change things.
The defender likes the style of play under Thomas Tuchel, unfortunately PSG are yet to make an official offer.
This all looks like an effort to encourage PSG, whilst perhaps at the same time looking for a big transfer fee from England as an alternative.
