With all the uncertainty surrounding the future of Harry Kane last summer, it was natural for Tottenham to be looking around for a new striker.
Dusan Vlahovic appeared to be high on Fabio Paratici’s list at Spurs should the England international move to Manchester City, but there were also signs that Lautaro Martinez was a target too.
One of those was the fact that a €95m bid (€85m + €10m in bonuses) was reportedly made for the Argentine in early August, only for Inter to turn it down, perhaps knowing they would be selling Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea a few days later.
Martinez stayed with the Serie A side, where he has enjoyed something of a frustrating season, going through both purples and barren patches, as the club attempt to retain their league title.
Gazzetta dello Sport look at his situation, explaining that despite his sporadic struggles in front of goal, he ‘remains a top striker and is therefore guaranteed to have clubs willing to invest in him’.
He has since renewed his contract until 2026 last October, but Gazzetta state it’s ‘easy to imagine that top clubs come back for him’.
The question, though, is ‘with what offers’?
What will ‘make a difference’ is the amount of money Tottenham or any other interested party are willing to put on the table for the Argentina international, but with four years left on his current deal, the price is likely to be high, perhaps even larger than the €95m Spurs supposedly put forward last summer.
