Leander Dendoncker had long wanted a move to the Premier League and struggled for a couple of windows to get out of Anderlecht.
The versatile player, who can operate in defence or midfield, saw his Belgian club, who still technically own him, leak all kinds of things to the country’s media about potential moves.
Repeat efforts to talk up Dendoncker’s price, which appeared to come direct from Anderlecht, strangely led to some in the Belgian media suggesting the player was being overhyped and needed to drag himself down a few pegs.
That would be more understandable if it hadn’t been his club behind the claims of potential transfer fees going over €30m.
Monday’s edition of Tuttosport says AS Roma are aiming for the 23 year old, and that he’d be ‘easier to get’ in the January window than some other targets.
That could be a misunderstanding of the player’s situation and Wolves’ obligation to sign him permanently from Anderlecht.
If he can’t get in the team at Wolves then a move to Roma would be rather surprising.
