Manchester City youngster Tommy Doyle is looking increasingly likely to return to the club early from his loan spell at HSV Hamburg.
We covered a report in Germany yesterday that explained how the player’s decision to return home for Christmas had effectively put an end to his loan spell in Germany.
BILD pick up on that today and echo the sentiments, saying that it will be ‘quarantine or end’ as far as the Manchester City midfielder is concerned.
That’s because Doyle has returned home to Manchester for Christmas and, as a result of the latest Coronavirus restrictions, would have to spend two weeks in quarantine in Hamburg on his return from the ‘virus-ridden’ UK.
He would also not be able to take time off, meaning he would miss the German club’s return to training on December 30th and then the training camp in Spain, which runs from January 2nd to January 8th.
That would only push him further down the pecking order in coach Tim Walter’s mind, which is hardly ideal for a player who plays ‘no role’ under the coach already and has only managed six appearances and 71 minutes so far this season.
BILD say it ‘probably won’t come to that’, though as the ‘trend’ is for an early termination of his loan move from Manchester City.
It was intended for that to run until the summer, but given his lack of minutes and this latest situation regarding him flying home, there would really be no point.
Instead, an early termination is seen as a ‘win-win situation’ for the player and the German club but mostly the former, who can go and prove himself on loan at a different club instead.
