Victor Osimhen was having a great season for Napoli until he picked up a serious cheekbone fracture in November.
The attacker had moved to the Serie A club in July 2020, in a deal worth €80m to Lille. He’d been linked with Tottenham before leaving France, and has been since.
In his first season after the big move he found the back of the net 10 times in 24 league matches, adding three assists along the way.
This season he has 10 goals in 17 matches overall, including finding the back of the net four times in three Europa League games. Osimhen returned to action this month, and scored in Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Venezia at the weekend.
He’s already being linked with a move to the Premier League, although it can be certain his club will put up a serious fight to keep him.
Speaking to La Repubblica, and quoted by Spazio Napoli, Osimhen was asked to name the ‘toughest defender’ he’s ever faced, and replied: “Romero, now at Tottenham. Every time he marked me he was faster than me, also able to anticipate me. And Koulibaly in training, who never lets me score.”
Those will be nice words for Cristian Romero to hear.
