Lyon captain Nabil Fekir was linked with a move to Liverpool in May and the two clubs had agreed a fee for the France international this month. The player even reportedly completed his medical, but his move to Anfield collapsed.
The Ligue 1 outfit revealed they are unwilling to let the 24-year-old join the Merseyside club in the summer transfer window. Fekir’s agent Jean-Pierre Bernès earlier dropped a hint the deal could still be on after admitting “the story isn’t over”.
Fekir is a versatile player who Jurgen Klopp probably thought could help Liverpool unlock teams who sit back. He scored 23 goals and registered nine assists for Lyon in all competitions last season.
His form hasn’t gone unnoticed and today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claim Fekir’s magic “seduces” Barcelona. They are admirers of his overall game, with pace and technical ability impressing the Camp Nou outfit.
Eric Abidal was appointed as Barcelona’s new technical secretary, replacing Robert Fernandez. According to Mundo Deportivo, the former player has been following his compatriot for two years and believes his versatility suits the profile of the player his club are looking in the transfer window.
The Lyon star’s contract runs down in 2020 and he’s valued at €70m. The Catalan club believe Fekir has a bright future ahead of him and is a well known player in the offices of Barcelona scouts.
If the La Liga winners are seriously interested in signing Fekir, it should be seen whether Ernesto Valvrde’s side will be able to convince the player to join them, amid firm interest from Liverpool.
