Exactly one month ago, Portuguese newspaper Record shared a story claiming Manchester United placed a €60m bid for Benfica midfielder João Neves.

That report claimed the offer was immediately rejected by the Eagles, who have the player well protected with a €120m release clause and wouldn’t negotiate his exit for something below €100m.

Today, it’s newspaper Correio da Manhã who comes up with a new story, this time saying Manchester United placed a €70m bid for Neves.

It’s said both the Red Devils and Paris Saint Germain put that amount on the table, and Benfica rejected both offers.

This time it’s claimed that Benfica president Rui Costa doesn’t want the midfielder to go, considering him ‘vital’ for the team.

Correio da Manhã claim Manchester United are not the only club trying to bring him to England, with Arsenal and Chelsea also interested, but the Red Devils were the only Premier League side who actually made a bid.

Now even though Costa didn’t accept any of the offers, it’s reported that he hasn’t closed doors, and some new bids could show up after the Euros.
