Chelsea’s big approach for Alvaro Morata during the last summer transfer window was no secret given the player confirmed it himself, but Real Madrid wanted to keep the forward in their squad for the current season.
Morata had returned to Real Madrid after a succesful stint with Juventus but he wasn’t returning to play a back-up role. Unfortunately for Morata, that’s what he’s got. Whenever there’s a big game and the BBC of Bale, Benzema, and Cristiano are fit… Morata sits on the bench.
Spanish newspaper Sport report that therefore Madrid are preapred to sell, with Chelsea named as a possible destination. It would take a good offer for both club and player, and the transfer amount is suggested as €70m.
A lot depends on the future of Diego Costa but Antonio Conte’s desire to sign Morata is strong, and this could be a deal Chelsea can pull off at the second attempt.
