Alvaro Morata to Chelsea is being given new life, for several reasons. Real Madrid being reportedly interested in Paulo Dybala helped to encourage the idea, and that’s the line which Turin newspaper Tuttosport took on Monday.
It seemed like an assumption, and on Tuesday there’s similar from Spain.
Sport report that Morata is completely blocked by Karim Benzema at Real Madrid. It’s explained it’s not even a fair fight, with the French striker being a favourite of the coaching staff.
Therefore, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea could be an option. Morata is said to be unhappy with his situation at Madrid and was even considering a return to Juventus, but they’ve bought Gonzalo Higuain, and wouldn’t pay what Madrid ask anyway.
For Conte’s it’s different and Sport say a fee of €60m to €70m is ‘not a problem’ for Chelsea. It’s claimed Chelsea offered €70m last summer, and whilst the figures are sometimes reportedly differently, it’s something Morata himself has spoken about.
In September, Morata spoke to SportBild about Chelsea’s offer: “Chelsea showed the most interest. Coach Conte had back then brought me to Juventus. This time it was a very good offer. I would have been the most expensive Spanish player of all time.”
Asked if Chelsea had bid €70m Morata said: “Yes, something thereabouts. Chelsea is a great club. I had many great offers. But Real said that they plan to play me, that was always my dream, and you cannot beat it.”
Sport say Conte has asked Chelsea to ‘make an effort’ to sign Morata, but any deal would be likelier in the summer.
Again, it all seems like assumption, but with Morata having confirmed a big Chelsea offer, and the recent Diego Costa issues, perhaps it’s not a bad assumption to make.
Sport’s interest in all of this is, being a Catalan newspaper, to stir the pot at Real Madrid.
