Back in March, we covered a story from Mercato365 explaining that Chelsea were interested in Lyon’s 15-year-old striker Willem Geubbels.
According to the French website, the Blues had ‘concretely’ positioned themselves in an attempt to sign the young forward, having made contact with his father about a possible move.
There haven’t been many updates since, with the player appearing for France U17s already, until today.
From information gathered by Lyon fan website Olympique et Lyonnais, it appears Red Bull Salzburg are also very keen on the Chelsea target, having had a €5m bid rejected to acquire his services.
Lyon are aware of Geubbels’ potential, and with their focus on developing young talent, don’t particularly want to miss out on more money down the line after seeing Anthony Martial, one of their former youth products, be sold by Monaco to Manchester United for a potential €80m.
This means that if Chelsea are to sign Geubbels in the near future, they’re going to have to offer a bit more than €5m.
Olympique et Lyonnais also reveal that Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool are keeping tabs on the young forward.
