Inter Milan are looking for a new manager, and they’re going for one of the world’s best. There’s no shortage of optimism and Antonio Conte and Diego Simeone are the two most desired.
After that there’s a list of other maybes, and several names down that list is Mauricio Pochettino.
That’s the same Mauricio Pochettino who has worked wonders with Tottenham on a budget and who is currently wrapped in optimism about the future. The same Mauricio Pochettino who is set to take his Tottenham side into a new stadium as the club build a future which is largely shaped by him.
When Pochettino was linked with the Barcelona job, even the Catalan media accepted he’s happy where he is. So for Gazzetta dello Sport to suggest Pochettino is fourth or fifth choice for Inter and would still be possible, is laughable.
Inter are currently 8th in Serie A, 24 points off the lead, the club isn’t a stranger to big hopes for improving fortunes being dashed, and star player Mauro Icardi always seems a few months away from his next annoying drama.
To tempt Conte or Simeone, Gazzetta say Inter would be prepared to offer a €50m contract over a five year period. Even if that’s true, and even if they’d offer the same to Pochettino, it’s hardly likely to tempt the Tottenham manager too much.
