Given all the effort Tottenham made to sign Giovani Lo Celso, and trust us when we say it was a lot, you’d think they’d have spent every bit of energy possible to make it a success.
Instead, it seems they’ve given up on the Argentine midfielder and according to Mucho Deporte, that could result in him pushing for a move this summer ahead of becoming a free agent next year.
They cover the player today and the growing prospect of a return to former club Real Betis, who Tottenham paid €32m for the central midfielder back in July 2020 after an initial €16m loan deal in August the previous year.
Tottenham were enamoured with the midfielder at that point after he had shined for the Spanish side and he was certainly riding high, seeing himself valued at €50m, the highest it’s ever been.
Since then, it’s been a considerable struggle for him, and he’s now valued at around €16m and could even be available on a free in a year’s time.
Betis are showing an interest in bringing him back and Tottenham may be willing to facilitate that as he is entering the final year of his deal, and this is the last summer to make any sort of money on him.
They know they have no chance of getting their money back and even €16m may be ambitious, and Mucho Deporte believe the figure ‘will surely go down’ if the player pushes to find a way out.
That would be the latest development in a transfer deal that just hasn’t worked, particularly financially, as far as Tottenham are concerned.
