German magazine SportBild have some hope on behalf of Borussia Monchengladbach. They report this week that Chelsea’s €50m idea to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton could present Gladbach some hope with Andreas Christensen.
The idea is Chelsea would give Southampton €50m for Van Dijk, and then Antonio Conte’s club would accept ‘up to’ €20m from the German club for Christensen.
Van Dijk, who’ll turn 26 years of age this summer, was excellent for Southampton in the first half of the season. He’s also managed to improve whilst injured, with the defender being so increasingly hyped that he’s soon to cast shadows over the likes of Franz Beckenbauer.
Christensen’s camp have made it clear they wouldn’t be interested in being part of Chelsea’s deal for Van Dijk. The 21 year old Dane will believe he has the ability to match or even surpass Van Dijk over the next few years.
And that’s what could dampen Gladbach’s hopes. Christensen has been so good for them that a fee of under €20m would be a bargain, and Chelsea aren’t so happy to hand those out any longer.
