Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is very much the man of the moment in the Bundesliga this season. He’s scoring goals for fun, and that leads to repeated transfer rumours, with Arsene Wenger links popping up every now again.

Whether Wenger retains a genuine interest is another thing entirely. Arsenal signed Lucas Perez during the summer, and Olivier Giroud has his role with the club.

Alexis Sanchez has been in excellent form upfront, so the days when Arsenal were desperate for a striker may well have gone.

This week’s edition of German magazine Sport Bild carries another claim about Arsenal putting a bid forward for the player in the summer transfer window.

Bild say Dortmund were reluctant to sell Aubameyang during the last transfer window, and that ‘At that time there were two offers from Arsenal and PSG, which have moved between €45m and €55m.’

In November there were claims from Italy that Arsenal had offered €90m for the player, but it didn’t seem very watertight. Indeed, Sport Bild say that Dortmund didn’t want to let Aubameyang go for less than €70m last summer, and €90m is quite obviously higher.

In the next summer window, Dortmund ‘wouldn’t be averse’ to selling their star man for a ‘mega-offer’.

Aubameyang retains a dream of joining Real Madrid, but should the Spanish club’s transfer ban be applicable during the next summer transfer window, he could be looking at summer 2018 before making the move. By then the player will be 29 years of age, and it’s debatable how much Madrid would pay, even if he keeps up a good scoring record.

If Wenger fancies turning social media claims of an Arsenal transfer ‘madness’ into reality then there’s a possibility next summer, but a lot will depend on Dortmund’s price, and maybe Madrid’s ban situation.
