If you take a look at the Portuguese media on Tuesday, you will see lots of stories saying Everton would be interested in the Sporting striker Bas Dost.
The original story came from ESPN, who claimed the Toffees would be ‘weighing up a move’ for the Dutch star in the January window.
Everton are currently struggling in the Premier League and Ronald Koeman reportedly believes that his compatriot would help.
It’s been quite obvious that sooner or later, a Premier League club would seriously go for Bas Dost. With 37 goals last season, his form wouldn’t go unnoticed, it was no surprise there were rumours linking him to Newcastle and West Ham during the summer window.
A report from Jornal de Notícias even claimed Newcastle United made a €40m approach for the striker, but that wasn’t enough to convince the Portuguese side.
We all know that signings are harder to make in the January market, so if Everton make an attempt then, it’s very likely Sporting will demand the release clause, which is €60m.
Considering the €40m linked to a Newcastle offer wasn’t considered enough in Portugal for the 28 year old, then Everton aren’t going to get this one easily.
