With the many reports this weekend regarding Newcastle United interest in Benfica’s Gonçalo Ramos, the Portuguese press obviously reacts to those claims today.
And even though most of the information they have about the Magpies’ chase is really coming from England, newspaper O Jogo has a couple of things to say about the situation.
The outlet first claims that Benfica request at least €40m to let Ramos go. It’s known the Eagles previously turned a bid of over €30m from Nottingham Forest, and if Newcastle are really going for him, this shall be the starting point for the negotiations.
O Jogo then claims that the Lisbon side will only sell the player after the Champions League play-offs. The Eagles are first facing Dynamo Kyiv this week, and then play the decisive game in Lisbon on the 23rd of August.
Ramos has huge importance for the Portuguese giants, because as pointed out by the report, he’s been involved in 41.7% of the 12 goals they’ve scored in 2022/23. That’s why they can’t even think of missing him for such an important game, which will dictate how their season will go.
So even though the Portuguese media admits that Benfica may not be able to hold the player, Newcastle should be a little patient and wait for a couple of weeks until they can actually land him.
