Arsenal are yet to make a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji over concerns about his fitness.
That’s according to BILD, who say the Gunners are yet to make a concrete bid for the defender despite being ‘seriously interested’ in him.
The newspaper explains that Akanji is a €30m problem for Borussia Dortmund this summer, with the club keen to move him on as his current deal expires in 2023, and he’s refused several offers to extend.
The player wants to leave, and Dortmund will let him do so if they can get a deal worth around €30m for him.
However, doing so ‘looks rather difficult’ at this moment in time as his suitors simply don’t want to pay that figure.
There was plenty of interest in the defender not long ago, and Arsenal were ‘seriously interested’ in bringing the player to the Emirates.
Dortmund chief Sebastien Kehl is yet to receive a ‘concrete offer’, though, and that’s because of concerns about Akanji’s fitness.
The player has been struggling with knee problems and had to undergo meniscus surgery in January.
That’s been followed by him missing the Nations League with further pain in the same area.
That has proved to be a ‘deterrent effect on new employers’, such as Arsenal, who seemingly aren’t willing to take the risk, particularly for €30m.
