Last week, Roger Ibañez signed a new contract with AS Roma which sees his deal there made permanent until June 2025.
Prior to that there were claims of interest from the Premier League, and now it’s been stated that offers even arrived. AS Roma focused website Voce Giallorossa credit Ilario Di Giovambattista with stating €30m offers were received, presumably recently, from both Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City.
According to the claims, Spurs and the Foxes have been following the defender for some months, and the insinuation is that their interest will continue regardless of the contract renewal.
Roma initially took the 22-year-old on loan from Atalanta, in a typical Italian-style deal which was set to turn into a permanent move and has now done so.
Taking the €30m from Tottenham or Leicester would have represented a big profit for Roma, who it’s believed had agreed to pay Atalanta €8m for the player. Such offers seem unlikely in the January window, and it’s also unlikely they’d be made so far ahead of the summer, so there’s a good chance these claims are designed to make Roma’s transfer business look as impressive as possible.
