AS Roma are reportedly making a bid for Manchester United’s Memphis Depay. According to exclusive claims from Tutto Mercato Web on Friday, the Serie A side want the player on a six-month loan with a permanent €25m transfer at the end of the season.
The website claims there are many other clubs interested in the Dutchman, with Everton, Tottenham and Marseille included.
Manchester United would be searching for a solution for the player, who has been a peripheral figure this season and didn’t feature much more last season.
Depay has managed only 134 minutes during the current campaign and is far from impressing manager José Mourinho. Chances are few and far between, and when given them Depay doesn’t grasp the opportunity.
Even though Mourinho has been struggling to find the right wingers, even Henrikh Mkhitaryan came out of exile before Memphis Depay could get a chance to start a game.
Manchester United paid a big fee for Depay one and a half years ago (differing amounts depending on which figures you believe), and the player never became what was expected of him. Maybe getting €25m now wouldn’t be bad business, but the details of an agreement with Roma are still to be seen.
Would it be a buying option or a mandatory transfer at the end of the season? That would make a big difference.
