The Alexis Sanchez saga has been so much fun that similar will be repeatedly encouraged between now and the summer.

Drama around the Manchester City and Manchester United battle has been hyped hugely by the English press and that’s spread a little around Europe, meaning there’ll be several players linked to both clubs between now and the summer… that’s the way these things work.

Step forward Stefan de Vrij, who is still finding ways to avoid signing his new Lazio contract. Should the Dutchman eventually find a pen that works then his buyout clause will be €25m, but that almost encourages rather than discourages interest.

Tuttosport report that within Italy, Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan will tussle for his services, and outside of Italy it’s now said to be down to just two: Manchester United and Manchester City.

It’s certainly plausible, especially at €25m.

Mourinho and Guardiola could find such an amount down the back of their respective sofas, and adding a central defender, to replace another, could be on the agenda of both clubs come the summer.
