Over the past few days, reports from Italy and the Netherlands have stated Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil has received interest from Fiorentina and Feyenoord.
On Thursday, we relayed news from Italy that the Serie A side want to sign the 22-year-old on a loan deal and are waiting for Spurs to open the door. Later that day, Corriere Fiorentino stated La Viola are working on trying to get this deal over the line.
Onda Cero journalist Mario Gago was a guest on Radio Bruno’s A pranzo con il Pentasport, where he talked about the Tottenham player, and his comments are relayed by Viola News.
After arriving at Tottenham in 2021, Gil was sent out on loan to Valencia [January 2022] and Sevilla [January 2023]. Gago claims the Premier League side aren’t willing to sanction another loan move for him.
“It’s unlikely that Tottenham will be open to another loan. He cost €25m plus Erik Lamela, he would cost no less than €15m. He hasn’t exploded, but with two months of continuity he can do very well,” he said.
The journalist has backed the former Sevilla man to make a switch to Fiorentina, while has also insisted that he must be given time to adjust.
“He’s not a winger, he’s another type of player. It would be his first experience in Italy, he may need time to adapt. [Fiorentina manager Vincenzo] Italiano has clear ideas, but you have to immediately absorb his way of playing, understand the rules of his game,” Gago explained.
For Gil to showcase his qualities in Italy, Gago believes he needs freedom.
“I would like to see him in Italian football. He’s not very fast, he doesn’t need a very high pace, in a team that dribbles well he could fit in well, but in Italiano’s formation there would be a need to play a role suited to him,” the journalist added.
“Perhaps like Pioli had done with Brahim Diaz, as a false winger or midfielder without defensive duties. With Beltran I would see it well, they speak the same football language too.”
