Sevilla’s previous efforts to sign Bryan Gil as a youngster could come back to help them this summer as they try to get him back from Tottenham.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who explain how Sevilla’s gestures in the past to stop the forward signing for Barcelona could now work in their favour.

The newspaper explains that Sevilla would love to have Gil back on a permanent basis, with the club undergoing a major restructuring of the squad this summer.

The player too, seems keen on a return to his former club, with numerous reports making it clear that he’s told Tottenham he won’t be sanctioning another loan deal away from the club this summer and wants a permanent exit if he is not part of their plans.

This is where their previous efforts to sign him could come in handy. Estadio explain that when Gil was a youngster, Sevilla did everything to prevent him joining Barcelona, going as far as to give his family a €12,000 car and his father a job to convince the youngster to sign for them.

This came after the player’s father had told the club they would be moving to the Camp Nou, with Sevilla then going all out to convince them to reverse the idea and it ultimately paying off.

That turned out to be a bargain as they later sold him to Tottenham for €25m but it could now also work in their favour when trying to get him back.

Gil has never let go of his association to the club, even returning their on loan to win the Europa League, and it seems gestures like this only solidified their relationship and, now, have made him more determined to return.

Whether Sevilla could convince Tottenham with €12k and a job for someone is unlikely, of course, but it did help get Gil on side and potentially give them favourite status this summer as well.
