Everton and Romelu Lukaku seem to be used as props by Marca in a Friday article. Keen to build the idea that Jose Mourinho could dangle David De Gea to try and get Alvaro Morata, Marca have to set the scene.

Part of setting that scene is claiming that Antonio Conte, having made confirmed attempts in the past, is no longer interested in Morata, and would prefer Lukaku. Chelsea’s decision would be partly because Lukaku counts as homegrown.

Everton’s role in all of this is to ask Chelsea for €115m, with Marca saying Ronald Koeman’s side are determined to get no less, and tie up Antonio Conte in that pursuit.

That leaves Mourinho to want Morata, which pushes De Gea closer to Madrid. Mourinho would prefer Morata over James Rodriguez, and it would make a move easier for the Manchester United goalkeeper.

Marca have pretty much convinced themselves that Chelsea are going for Lukaku, all to build another De Gea story.
