Jakub Moder’s €1.5m move from Brighton and Hove Albion to Feyenoord in the January transfer window is looking like a bargain for the Dutch side.
That’s at least if the latest out of the Netherlands is anything to by as the former Brighton man receives praise following the win over AC Milan from the likes of Voetbal International.
The Dutch side were 1-0 winners over the Italians on Wednesday evening, with a third minute goal from Igo Paixao proving to be the difference.
Moder was key to that early, and eventual winning goal, and that earned him praise from Dutch favourite Pierre van Hooijdonk after the game.
“I think Moder makes a very good impression on the field,” Voetbal Primeur report him saying on Ziggo Sport.
“His physical presence also ensures that he picks up a lot of balls. That is crucial in such a game. He also often wins the important second game and reads the game well. He also had a great opening on Paixão.”
That praise also continued over at Voetbal International, where journalist Pieter Zwart has insisted that the club have finally found their replacement for Mats Wieffer.
“The 25-year-old Pole triumphs in 11 of the 14 duels he has entered into. The variation in those who won duels are hopeful,” he said.
“Moder has the top speed to find out players with a tackle, triumphs with his 1 meter 88 in four head matches and Remarkably often put his foot in between at the times that Milan threatens to pick up a falling ball.
“He effortlessly bridges large distances, which is a handy feature for an inspector. Afterwards, interim trainer Pascal Bosschaart mentions that ‘defending incredibly well’, ‘hard work’ and ‘energy’ have been the keys to the victory over Milan. Moder is the personification of all these elements.
“But the strong performance of the Duel King against Milan suggests that the successor to Wieffer is listening to the name Moder.”
That’s high praise indeed and given he cost €1.5m to sign from Brighton in January, a majorly good deal for Feyenoord, especially when they sold Wieffer to Brighton for €32m in the summer.
Of course, there’s plenty left for Moder to do yet as he looks to get his career back on track but his performance against Milan hasn’t gone unnoticed and suggests the Dutch side may have secured themselves a bargain.
