Liverpool assistant manager Johnny Heitinga has reached an agreement with Ajax to become their new manager.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who report that the Liverpool assistant and Marcel Kaizer reached an agreement with Ajax on Friday morning. They are now set to succeed Francesco Farioli, with a verbal agreement until 2027 set to be signed.
An official announcement on the appointment will only be made once the entire process is completed. The deal has been submitted to Ajax’s supervisory board, who are satisfied with the idea.
Heitinga’s contract with Liverpool needs to be dissolved and the club’s lawyers are in the process of drafting the final contracts. These will then be sent to Heitinga and Kaizer’s agents. No problems are expected on that front.
The pair will return to their former club, where both have managed before on their own but will now form a management duo instead. Heitinga will be at the forefront of the pairing.
Ajax are clearly hoping he will bring Arne Slot’s influence from Liverpool with him, having been a part of their Premier League title success this season.
The duo also worked under Slot at Cambuur, where they worked on the style of play that’s brought the Liverpool manager success at AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and now Liverpool.
